"Locked Head"

A short text from 2012's Feed Your Head feature, inspired by Big Black's "Precious Thing"

The July 2012 issue of Dazed & Confused included a playlist of 11 short stories inspired by specific songs, including Sheila Heti on the Flaming Lips, Arthur Bradford on Nirvana, Evie Wyld on Cher, and several others. My contribution, “Locked Head,” based on Big Black’s “Precious Thing,” appears below.

I also wrote a second one for Sunn O)))’s “It Took the Night to Believe,” but in looking back over it, it appears I tried to reuse text I’d already written to fit the song, which isn’t how these things work.
